Catherine Ford was raised in Bloomsbury by her mother and grandmother. Ford was suffering from anxiety disorder that was rooted in word associations as a young toddler. Ford's interest in acting began when she was young. Ford joined at the National Youth Theatre. The school she was accepted to was Sylvia Young Theatre School. However, after a short period of days, she concluded that the school was not suitable for her. Ford instead applied to the Central School of Speech and Drama and was able to secure a place on her fourth application. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler as a regular character for Doctor Who. Ford was graduated in 1993, but at the time she already had made her television debut in the 1991 season from Surgical Spirit; she adopted her professional title "Catherine Tate". During the Nineties, Tate could be watched on television in programs like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. She worked on stage regularly, and joined The Royal Shakespeare Company's season 2000-2001. Tate was first noticed due to her stand-up comedy in the year 1996.
